AHHH! Next clinic is real pt day!

It is so crazy! I can't believe it is already here. I loved today though; We were singing and dancing and just having a good time. It was really easy going and I learned so much. I loved being able to just sit and work with my instruments and figure out how the heck I use all these instruments.

Mock pt day!

I was way more nervous than I thought I was going to be. I feel like I did really well though. I am yet again still getting the swing of things. I am excited for our real patient day. I think it is going to be really fun working on my dad.

I was the patient today!

Even thought I was the patient today, I really learned alot about how things flow. I feel tons better about the real patient day.

Practice Day!

Today was so nice, I felt like I got caught up on everything. I passed off air powder polishing, sealants, and fluoride. Poor Mark! Now I am off to study for Costley's class and later going out with the volleyball girls. I have had so much fun playing volleyball...tonight is our night to hang out after the season is over.

Sealant Day

So today we learned how to apply sealants. I have done many sealants so I feel like I'm doing pretty good at it. One of them is still a little high and is driving me nuts though.

October 26th

Today we used the air powder polisher. We looked awful! We were all PPE'ed up and looked similar to lunch ladies...and we got some awesome pictures! I had never seen the APP until today and I don't know if I am such a huge fan yet. It is so messy, which I think the patient won't enjoy. But it was fun to learn about it.

Pass off day!

Today was way easy going! I passed off the dental screening and intraoral picture PE. I am awesome! hehe! Now off to study for Costley's test.

I'm getting it! Finally!

I think I am finally getting the flow of how things are suppose to go. It takes much longer than I thought it would as well. Radiology lab went by so slow today and clinic went by so fast, I didn't have enough time to do do anything...I felt. I got to pass off my OHI PE and that was good.

Went through OD

We went through a complete OD. I am starting to get me use to the flow of things, but it is something I still struggle with. Kierstin was my partner today...I just love her! I also passed off posterior scaling and I feel really good about it. I still need to practice...like everything! It's been a good Monday so far!

Passed off anterior scaling!

I really felt like I was getting it before Costley came over to pass it off and then she came over and made a bunch of changes. Which is great because I learned SO much! I feel like I need to run home and practice so I won't forget the door handle and being up on my fulcrum. I can't believe that such minor changes make such a big difference.

OHI

Today we practiced OHI. I feel really good about this. I feel like when there is a patient in the chair it is going to be easier. I feel rehearsed, almost forced, and just weird when I have to practice OHI with my peers. Practice is great, don't get me wrong....it's just weird for me.  

Posterior scaling

I feel pretty good about posterior scaling. Like everything, I think with practice it will seem more comfortable. It feels a little different right now. I love wednesday clinic. I don't feel so rushed and there are more instructors so it is nice to have more one on one help.

We got to scale!! YAY!

Wow! Already to scaling! I'm practically a hygienist already...haha...not! But I'm getting closer! Heidi cleaned off by lower anterior so well! It feels so much better! Curtis watch out...that calculus is coming off those teeth of yours! It's fun to finally clean the teeth. I love scraping gunk!

Intruments, instruments, and more intruments!

We organized all of our instruments today. It got me really excited to know that we will be using them soon. I may regret saying that... I also passed of my exploring PE and got some really good tips for probing. Ex: stay with the triangle, find a happy medium with my walking stroke, a cute poem, and use a split fulcrum to get to the very posterior teeth.

Exploring

I loved exploring! I do need to still practice it a little but I feel much better about it compared to probing. I stuck Heidi a few times....but learned. The typodont sucks! A real person is so much better to practice on!

Probing

Ugh! Probing! I do not feel comfortable at all with this. It is so uncomfortable. Honey be ready to be probed!  Yeah he is my guinea pig. I was excited to start actually being in the mouth for that kind of stuff but I really need to practice. I forgot to blog last Monday too and we did intraoral exams and that was pretty easy. That stuff is interesting to me.

Last Wednesday and today

We did extra oral exams and then intraoral exams on Monday. It was an awesome massage! The extra oral at least. They were both pretty easy days!

I like this stuff! I learned this stuff when I took my CNA class so it is something I feel really/ pretty comfortable with.

Last wednesday blog

So we learned about health history and practiced. It was alot of information, but I feel like it will be beneficial to our patients. This to me is one of the most important parts. Costley told us that we get to take time to explain things to patients about different medications and other things that their doctor may have not had time for. If I were a patient I would really appreciate it.

Yay! Mirror Time!!

We finally got our mirrors out and went over the positions for where we would sit for cleaning teeth or reaching different parts of the mouth. It all feels a little wierd at first but I think I'm getting the hang of it. Not ready for real patients yet, but getting closer! In radiology this morning we also got to take horizontal and vertical bitewings and it was so much fun. I thought I did pretty good at xrays before, but I have learned so many things that are helpful and make the xrays much better, more diagnostic. Patient position is one of the biggest things that impact a good xray or not.

8/29/11

Lots and lots of cleaning!!! Put-up, tear down, pouch stuff, and more!! We got a little time to practice on each other. That is my favorite part. I love the one on one practice with 'real' people.

Clinic 8/24/11

Today we learned about our PPE and Blue Boa. New interesting things! I am starting to realize that things that I did as an assistant are different as a hygienist. We also got some one on one time with Mr. Typodont trying out our air/water and suctions, very cool.

First Clinic Day!!!

It went well today! Computer stuff is not my strong suit, but I feel really good about what I learned today on Eaglesoft. We did a little scavenger hunt around the clinic, I'm sure I will get to know what everything is for and where everything is when we start using it all. Excited to learn more!

Orientation Day!
